Location: Northwest of Smithville, Lawrence, Arkansas -- turn north off highway 115 on to Lone Oak Road a.k.a. County Road 160. When you come to a fork in the road stay to the right. County Road 160 turns into County Road 145. After traveling 7.5 miles the cemetery will be on the left and Lone Oak Baptist Church will be on the right.

There is a story about how Lone Oak Cemetery was started. A man was riding his horse home one night when a light came from the ground and traveled in front of him to a large oak tree and went back into the ground. The man believed this was a sign he was about to die and this was where he was to be buried. He died shortly after that and is buried under the oak tree.

I have since learned that my great great grandfather, Wyatt Helms was "The first to be buried here by a guiding light in 1875."

I was finally able to get to the cemetery and with the help of Gail Lies and Jeanette McClure we did an inventory on 22 April 1998.
