George Washington McNutt, Sr. is buried alone on the Lawrence and Independence County line on the south side of the Hwy. 25 about 2.5 miles southwest of Saffell. It is said that he asked his son to bury him there on the site of the old gin, where he spent so many days of his life. His wives and many of his descendants are buried in Union and Perrin-McNutt Cemeteries.
McNutt, George Washington, Pvt., Co. G, 25th Arkansas Infantry -- b. 27 November 1828; d 16 April 1918. Memorial reads, "An honest man, the noblest work of God." **
